Catherine Medina, LCSWCatherine Medina, LCSW, has practiced in the greater Richmond area since 2008. She is originally from Florida, where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology in 1997 and a Master’s in Social Work in 2000 from the Florida State University. She completed an advanced graduate program practicum at the Florida State University Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic where she earned a specialized Certificate in Family Social Work Practice. She has been licensed as a Clinical Social Worker since 2003.

Ms. Medina has extensive experience working with adults, adolescents, and children in a variety of settings including outpatient, community based services, residential treatment, and inpatient hospitalization. She also has provided supervision for new clinicians for licensure, as well as MSW student interns.

Ms. Medina specializes in the practice of trauma focused therapy with adults, and uses a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and narrative techniques to explore an individual’s past to make sense of their present experiences and build up resilience and adaptive coping skills. Ms. Medina has had extensive training in trauma therapy as well as cognitive behavioral therapy and has been a Certified Family Trauma Professional and is also working on completion of her certification in adult trauma practice and advanced adult trauma practice. She also works with adolescents and addresses self-esteem, anxiety, and depression issues. Ms. Medina also enjoys working with married couples and addressing communication, conflict resolution, and building intimacy. Ms. Medina has been fully trained in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reorganization (EMDR) techniques and has used this technique successfully with various adult clients experiencing traumatic stress and anxiety.
